Flow / triptych
A collector asked if I would create three new variations of the Flow drawing, in candy colours, to work as a kind of triptych, designed to run the full length of their entrance hall. As a result I made the rubine, cadmium and cerulean variations shown here, each at the same size, 66cm H x 90cm, to make a 3 part work that would be installed at around 300cm in length.
Kinetic / QUAD
For Transistor at the Southbank I started displaying my more minimal works in grids, or quads, of 4 or 8. I like the way they sit together in sets, or grouped compositions. For the purpose of this website, I’ve gathered together the studies such as Curve here, or follow the links to the Concentric, Loop, Revolver, Halcyon and Wave pages for further information about those series.
Spiral / orange oblate
The spiral remains something that seems to capture people's attention and has done for millennia no doubt. From a snail's shell to the way water moves down a plug hole, and interstellar images of our galaxy taken in deep space, there's something really engaging, and often also a little psychedelic, about the geometry of a spiral. It's an irresistible form for study.
Revolver 1
Revolver is one of the earliest studies from the project, and one that forms the basis for much of what has been drawn since, especially with regard to the idea of using a square format, and a circular line. There are no glazes or transparencies here, simply the linework in motion, captured at a particular moment in time. The studies are off centre, a little off kilter, and that tension, I think, is where the interest lies.

Wave series
The Wave series incorporates twelve chromatic variations. Dating back to 2005, these are some of the first drawings I made to experiment with the idea of using digital tools to continue the C20th exploration around making abstract and colour space art from a studio setting.
