About Rotor
There's a turbine like quality to Rotor. At the time I made the drawing, I was experimenting with a broad number of studies designed to capture energy within circular and toroid forms. So much so that when I delivered the body of work for exhibition, the gallery director asked me if I had made any square and rectangular pieces for the show at all.
Far too late to change direction at that point of course!
There's something about the way a circular form can contain energy, almost as if it's encapsulated fully within the shape, that's really appealing. Some part of that may derive from the fact that our globe contains and encapsulates all the energy and matter we have here, on a single sphere floating in space. I like the way the works may sit on the wall too, like a giant full point, above a rectangular form below, be that a sideboard or a fire surround.
There's an energy there that's exciting to work with.
The palette for this study, and many of the pieces I made for the Generator exhibition, is subtler and more nuanced than many of the earlier works. There's a desire to use more complex secondary and tertiary colours here, and really work into the relationships between the various hues and tones, a component of the drawing process that perhaps hadn't been uppermost in my mind before, as the interplay between the line, the volume, the hue and the tone are in constant flux and tension, of course.

Rotor / burnt sienna is a metallic Lambda photographic print, optionally mounted to Plexiglass, laser cut to shape, and fitted with a hidden subframe, ready to install.
Work can be supplied unmounted and ready to frame if you’d prefer.
The work is individually signed and numbered verso, with both a unique catalogue raisonné number and the edition number for guaranteed authenticity.
