About Vortura

I'd been meaning to try a new series of pieces that would be shattered, or crystalline, in some way, to work as a counterpoint to the more fluid, liquid geometries I’ve been drawing.

Vortura is the first result of that thinking. It’s one of those pieces that is better in the flesh than it is on screen, in large part because there’s a subtlety in the detailing that gets lost in these smaller images.

On reflection, I guess it takes up where Myriad left off, and perhaps tries to encapsulate a little of the excitement that I was getting from Renzo Piano's amazing Shard in London at the time, at least in so far as that there is a certain angularity to the fragmented triangular facets running through the composition, and perhaps a glass like feel to the way the piece is shattered.

For my next study in this area, I'll be looking at something less symmetrical and more heavily impacted, perhaps almost like a broken pane of glass, with radial energy coming from a central impact point.
