Arpeggi / folio is a study comprised of six variations: cadmium silvered, cerulean japanned, crimson, gilded, kandy black and silvered. Works are available individually, or as a folio of all six editions.
About Arpeggi / FOLIO
The Arpeggi series of drawings seemed to lend itself particularly well to the idea of being recoloured, and so after some experimentation, I settled on the idea of making six variants, which would be contained within a box, or clamshell folio.
At the base level, the six variations are red, yellow and blue, alongside black, white and grey. Three hues and three tones. Effectively creating a sextet of variations, or parameters, to work within.
From there each piece takes on its own particular characteristics of course.
There’s a long tradition in fine art printmaking of working in sets and offering those sets within a single folio. To my mind, Warhol’s electric chair series is a particularly noteworthy example.
It’s a really satisfying format to work with, and one I’m sure I’ll return to. There's more than a little inspiration from the Goldberg Variations here too.

About Arpeggi. The six studies encapsulate the idea of creating multiple similar sculptural forms, and hanging them on a grid, redolent of a musical stave, in such a way that they somehow resemble a series of rising notes, a kind of visual arpeggio.
The grid itself was the result of a huge amount of study into contemporary rhythms, looking at how the analogue and digital can be combined to deliver new forms, that can successfully gel into a singular cohesive image.
As the drawings for the Arpeggi series emerged, I started to work on each of the hanging ‘notes’, and their arrangement within the compositions, creating dozen of individual colour and tone studies to be combined, as modular elements, into the final editions.

Price and dimensions
Arpeggi / FOLIO / cadmium silvered is a ten colour archival pigment print on 305gsm, 100% cotton, Hahnemühle fine art paper.
The work can be supplied unframed, or framed and ready to hang. I tend to use fairly minimal glazed and painted tulipwood frames, and set the work ‘straight in’ under the fillets, without a window mount. If you’d like to discuss other framing choices to suit your space please do get in touch.
