Vessel / a reliquary for the Holocene

I’ve been working on a few new CG visualisations of my kiln fired glass edition Vessel / a reliquary for the Holocene recently, of which this is probably the most successful sequence to date. A lot of new things to learn to make this happen, esp working with DaVinci.

I seem to have been drawing, printing and refining this sculptural model on and off for four or five months now, in between working on my other projects. It’s been an interesting challenge, and one that has consumed a lot of energy this Spring. I think it’s finally ready for editioning now.

I’ll be casting it into glass at the Centre for Print Research, UWE, as part of my residency there. I’ve already made a number of samples and test components, but this sculptural drawing will be the finished object. It’s comprised of 12 modular components, and should stand around 44cm high, or thereabouts.

I’ll post some more images of work in progress as it comes together, but for now I hope this digital maquette gives some sense of what I’m making. There’s a really interesting series of gains and losses as the digital is materialised, and I’ll be discussing that further as the project progresses, as ever the interface between digital systems and haptic making continues to be a fascinating area to explore.

.

I am of course massively indebted to the Centre for Print Research for offering me a residency, and for the time, help and expertise they’ve bought to bear on this project.

I’ll look forward to posting some more images later in the Spring, as the residency continues.

Until then, thanks for your interest, it’s appreciated.

With best regards,
