About SysVar
As 2017 progressed, I had become more and more obsessed with the idea of reprocessing, and multi processing, my drawings to make them more liquid, more diffuse, more detailed and I hope more engaging.
I called this process Systematic Variations. This latest series of drawing techniques, in part fuelled by an increase in the studio’s computing power, offered new opportunities to create, edit and tweak whole series of variations.
SysVar therefore was one of the first experiments I completed with any useable level of success, and as such seemed to be a perfect candidate for the Print Club, which in part intends to use the platform to mirror, or illustrate, more general progress in the studio, through this series of smaller works, mostly on paper.
As with the R2 / helios edition, I’ve been lucky enough to get an image of the final edition framed and in situ, in a collector’s home, a fabulous riverside apartment in London.

“...Thought I’d post a new study, a test piece really, that may well form part of a larger new series of variations. I’m working with the title Codex / systematic variations, and am greatly enjoying working out a series of new methods for creating the inter related works, that may form the backbone of a new print folio. That’s the outline plan anyway…
…I’m using the idea of a series of ‘partial components’ that can be 'remixed’ into a series of new prints, the components are almost like working with sculpture, where individual parts can be swapped in and out of the edit, to create a multiplicity of new images. I like the idea of the variations being part of a larger whole, and intend to continue making a few more pieces to see where the project leads…
…I've also just started testing the new printer, and am hoping to have actual, useable, printwork on my work bench early next week... exciting stuff...”

About the Print Club
If you’d like to receive three or four exclusive new editions in the post each year, alongside personal news and views from the studio, and invitations to shows and fairs, please do consider becoming a member of my Experimental Print Club. You can join or leave the club at any time, with absolutely no obligation to stay any longer than you want to.
New works are sent out somewhat sporadically throughout the year, often in line with the changing seasons. Each piece is unique, exclusive, and only available on the day it’s editioned, the size of the edition being determined by the number of members on the day.
I hope the club presents a more personal and intriguing way to connect with the studio, by creating a platform for collecting engaging new works for your home. The club is hosted online here, and I send out fairly regular blog posts and emails about the work too. I’d like to think that it’s an interesting proposition!
Membership is currently priced at £36 per month inc. UK delivery, or £42 for an international address.
