Tracer / WIP / work in progress
Recent posts seem to have been a bit ‘show heavy’, contrary to my best intention to use this blog to publish a little more of the work that never gets past the studio door. With that in mind, these are some images I’ve been experimenting with, based on the idea of tracing light.

Varnishing Day, RWA Open 2013
I misunderstood the invitation for the RWA’s annual ‘Varnishing Day’ lunch, so sadly missed the artist’s lunch and preview. Made it in with the locals for the opening though. Really pleased to find my work ‘Radial / THREE / pearlescent’ hanging in the main gallery, just across from Anna Gillespie’s fabulous small bronze ‘The Ghost of Summer’.

WGSN 2013
Justin Hammond (director of My Life in Art) has curated an inaugural show of my work at WGSN in central London. For the next three months, their building will be used to showcase five larger works, including Torsion / indigo lacquer and Blast FIRST.
WGSN specialise in forecasting fashion trends for the coming seasons, and as such, we’re hoping there may be some interesting cross pollination between the two disciplines, fashion and fine art, perhaps especially in the area of colour. It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of the project…

RWA Open 2013
Good to have been selected for the Open this year, although, at the time of posting this, it may be ‘selected not hung’. Fingers crossed for a good spot in the galleries.
The RWA Open runs from 24th November to 26th January. More information is available online here http://www.rwa.org.uk/whats-on/events/2013/11/161-annual-open-exhibition-events/

Moniker Art Fair, October 2013
Really pleased that The Future Tense are showing my work at the Moniker Art Fair, running alongside Frieze this weekend. Previously I’ve shown work with them at Spectra 1, Shoreditch and MTV ReDefine in Dallas, Texas.

New York AAF, October 2013
Mark Jason is heading over to NYC, with a pair of Radial pieces to exhibit. Radial / 3 / kandy black, and Radial / 3/ pearlescent. If you’re stateside, and you’d like to attend the preview, drop me a line, and I’ll see if I can get you on the list.

London Design Festival, 2013
As part of London Design Festival 2013, I’m exhibiting Collider / gilded mandala, at Go Modern on King’s Road. The shop features contemporary furniture, and has been kind enough to also host the Collider piece for the event.

On Paper, James Freeman Gallery
“It is one of the most basic artist’s materials. Sketches, ideas, plans, doodles, prints, photos and phone numbers… they all happen on paper. And so, this September, we are pleased to present a show of eight artists focusing exactly on that. On Paper.” James Freeman 2013

Shimmer
There’s a thought, that somewhere amongst the geometry I originally used for Flow, there must be more to discover, part of that exploration has surfaced as this new series, working title Shimmer, which may or may not ever see the light of day. An initial new image from the series is posted here and on Flickr.

Lumen at Artshow Busan 2013
Just got this image of Lumen / lacquered kandy from James Freeman at the end of Artshow Busan. Great to have the work exhibited there…

Myriad / LP
I’ve been working on a new series, entitled Myriad, and thought I’d post a few images online. I think they’re just about ready to view, although I may kick them around a little more this autumn. In due course, I’ll edition a couple as square pieces, with knocked out centres, perhaps at 70cm sq and 120cm sq. I hope they’re redolent of a record sleeve, the generic kind where you have to read the label to know what the disc is.

Inspired, Ashton Court, July 2013
An exhibition of beautiful bespoke wooden furniture, by some of the UKs finest makers, alongside art and photography. Featuring work by the renowned maker John Makepeace, photography by Barry Cawston, and six or eight of my own pieces.

Artshow Busan 2013
James Freeman Gallery, London, is set to show my work at Artshow Busan this week. Opening from 6th to 10th June, at the BEXCO Exhibition Hall, Busan, Korea.

McAllister Thomas Summer Show / June 2013
McAllister Thomas Fine Art are including five recent pieces of work in their summer show this year. The pieces include Radial / TWO / rubine shellform and Radial / THREE / pearlescent. Great to be included in what looks set to be an interesting show.

Hampstead AAF / June 2013
I have a couple of pieces of work at the upcoming Hampstead AAF, exhibited by the James Freeman Gallery. Dates are 13 to 16 June, 2013. If you’d like a pass for the opening, please do email me, and I’ll ask James to put a ticket on the door for you…

April Grieman, Tomato, Tony Cragg and American Metalflake / drawing digitally in a material world
Artist’s talk at Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, Bath Thursday 2nd May, 2013, at 7.30pm Sue Wales, Bath Society of Artists, has asked me to talk about digital art, as I’ve experienced it, over the last 30 years. I’m intending to discuss some of the work that has influenced me, as well as talking about the ideas and processes behind a few of my own recent pieces.

New website completed / v3.0
With months of gritty image editing, and far too much time spent checking style sheets, my latest website is up and running / v3.0. Made with Adobe Muse, I hope it’ll be a more agile container for the work I’m making than the previous offering.

20 / 21 at The Royal College of Art
Pleased to be exhibiting new works, including Spinnaker and Radial / 3 at The Royal College of Art’s 20 / 21 International Art Fair. The work will be showing with Milly Longin, aka The Art Movement. Milly was the first person to show my work at a fair, back in 2005, so it’s good to be showing with her again this year.

Generator at the Catto Gallery
Generator, a solo show of new work, was my second exhibition at Catto, featuring a number of laser cut pieces designed to be more sculptural on the wall.

Hong Kong AAF / 2013
I’m delighted to be showing some new work at the Hong Kong AAF / 2013, with the Mark Jason Gallery. If you’re in the area, and you’d like a complimentary ticket to visit the fair, please email me at chuck (dot) elliott (at) btinternet (dot) com, and I’ll have a ticket put aside for you.
